The Dommel: a small river with large significance

'Dommelloop' and 'Doe de Dommel'. Just two events on and near this campus that take their names from the small river that flows along TU/e. Without the Dommel, TU/e would not have been built at its present location, if the university would ever have been founded at all. Thanks to the marshiness of the Dommel valley Eindhoven had a large tract of undeveloped land at its disposal. And that was a strong point for finally selecting Eindhoven as the place to establish the second University of Technology of the Netherlands. Ever since the Dommel has played its modest but not unimportant role in university life. Like during the introduction of freshmen, on cultural occasions, als part of residential areas for expat staff, and as a 'green lung' in busy and sometimes hectic surroundings.
